These games are great for all ages and should making Halloween parties go with a bang or a shriek!

Make a Mummy

White toilet roll for each team
Mask for each team

Divide the kids into teams and give each team a toilet roll. When you start the clock/music each team picks a child on their team to wrap up in the toilet paper as a mummy (make sure they don’t wrap their hand to their body). When the teams are finished give each mummy the same mask to wear and ask them to dance to the monster mash song. The best mummy team win a prize. Make sure you have plenty of rubbish bags to gather up all the toilet paper afterwards!

Spider Web

A ball of wool is required for each child
The children stand in a circle and tie the start of the ball of wool around their waist. They then chant “My oh my, it’s a fly” and throw the ball to another child except the children standing beside them. When they catch the wool, they wrap it around their waist. Repeat this, a couple of times until a spider’s web is formed.

The first player to untangle themselves without cutting or tearing the wool is the winner. The colour wool helps kids to work out what way to move to untangle themselves.

Watch to make sure no-one wraps it around their neck!

Pop the Balloon

Supplies needed:
At least 2 balloons for each child (maybe one black, one orange)
Enough "treats" for each balloon to have one

Add the "treat" inside each balloon and blow up. Tie the balloon. Dump all the balloons on the floor and tell the children how MANY they may pop. The children must pop the balloons by sitting on them and bouncing.

Treat ideas: spiders, rings, candy, mini balls, anything small that will fit inside a balloon.

Pass the Intestines

Pumpkin scooped out or other Halloween container

Cold cooked spaghetti mixed with oil.

Small treats – coins, rings, key rings, wrapped prized.

Fill the container with the spaghetti. Mix in the treats. Play pass the parcel and when music stops, the child holding the container puts their hand into the intestines to claim a prize.

Balloon Sweep

1 Broom for each team
1 Balloon for each team

Setup a course for the race. Divide the children into teams. In a relay the children must run the course and back to their team sweeping the balloon along the course.

First team to complete the course wins.

Ghost Waiter

Another team game where the children need to balance a balloon on a paper plate over and course, passing it on to the next member of the team. Rules can be introduced that they have to return to the beginning if the balloon touches the ground.

Pass the apple

This relay Halloween game can also be played with oranges.

Line up the children in two rows, the same number of children in each line.

They have to pass the apple to the person behind them only using their chin, without using hands or dropping the apple. If the apple drops a team must start from the beginning again.

Halloween Autopsy Game

The source for this game comes from a piece written by Charles F. Smith for the Boy Scouts.

'The truth it is, and not a myth
That once there lived a man named Smith,
And it became his mournful lot,
To murdered be quite near this spot.
We now will pass out his remains,
You first will handle poor Smith’s brains....
'
At this point, 'moist sponges are passed from guest to guest.'

The head, once crowed with locks so fair,
Is low-so here comes Smiths soft hair,
( Pieces of fur or corn silk) .'

Sweet music Smith once loved to hear,
It fell upon his gentle ear,
(Pass around dried peaches for each ear,) .'

When Smith would smile at boys and girls,
His teeth gleamed out like whitest pearls,
(Pass around corn kernels) .'

And now the next you scare hold true,
We pass his windpipe out to you
( Cold cooked spaghetti) .'

The next you soon will understand
Is simply poor Smith,s cold right hand,
( A glove filled with wet sand) .'

Smith’s vision was once keen and wise,
You’ll know it when you touch his eyes,
( Peeled grapes) .'

His vertebrae once needed much,
You now shall have it within your touch,
Spools of thread strung together) .'

Now hearken, while midst dreadful groans
You hear the clank of poor Smiths bones
rattle chains and groaning noises to fade out into silence)

ghost

Ghost in the graveyard

One player, the ghost, hides. Meanwhile, the other players stay together at a spot designated "base" or "safety" (such as a lighted porch), and count loudly in unison, "One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock," and so on, all the way up to "midnight," at which point they all head off in search of the hiding ghost. When a seeker spots the ghost, he yells, "Ghost in the graveyard!" and, along with everyone else, runs back toward base. The ghost lets loose a ghostly scream and chases after the seekers, trying to tag as many as he can before they all reach base. Who gets to play the part of the ghost next depends on which version of the game your group prefers, but usually it's the first player tagged.

The Wishing Tree

You can do this one inside or outside. For each child tie a green and a red apple on a branch close together. Each child is blindfolded, then makes a wish and is spun around while saying the rhyme

Apples, apples in a tree
All dark red and one bright green
Spinning, spinning, then set free
Is the green one meant for me?

Point the child in the right direction to pick an apple. If the green one is picked, the wish will come true.

Black Cats Kittens

This game is good for the little children

One child is picked as the black cat and must leave the room for a few minutes. While the black cat is gone the rest of the children lie down with their head in their arms. The adult tips a few children on the shoulder. These are the black cat’s kittens. The black cat returns to the room and the kittens start meowing quietly, while keeping their faces hidden. The black cat must identify her kittens from their meows. The first kitten found becomes the black cat in the next game. The game continues until the last kitten is found.

Pin the Wart on the Witch’s Nose

This is a variation of pin the tail on the donkey. Pin a drawing of a witch up on a wall. In turn blindfold the player, spin around and get them to stick small balls of play-dough onto the witch’s nose. The most accurate ‘wart’ wins.

Catch the Ghost

Each child places their bowl on a particular spot on the floor. Scatter paper ghosts around the room.

When they are told to start, with a straw they must suck the ghost to the end of the straw and deposit it back in their bowl. The child with the most ghosts at the end of the game is the winner.
