This fantastic product is truly a first for Ireland. A culinary oil which serves all kitchen purposes. It’s healthy and nutritious too and it’s grown and produced right here in the country. No long flights from the Med or any other place in the world for this oil. Air miles? Forget them!
Austin Duignan spotted a gap in the market for a home produced culinary oil, and having consulted with several experts from the Department of Agriculture in Northern Ireland and Greenmount College of Agriculture in County Antrim, decided a pressing facility for home grown rapeseed, to produce a high quality oil was a definite goer. Along with business partner Stephen Allen, an agricultural expert, the pair sourced a group of the finest farmers in the area who now form the Donegal Farm Relief Group. Seed for Donegal Virgin Rapeseed Oil is grown over a thousand acres spread between a number of individual small farms throughout Donegal, Derry, Tyrone and County Down. After harvest, the seed is transported to the pressing facility in Erganagh Dairies, near Castlederg. Here seed is cold pressed, hence the term ‘virgin’, indicating how pure it is. Cold pressing preserves all the natural flavour of the oil. Afterwards it’s filtered, bottled, labelled - and that’s it. A pure, natural and simple process, which gives supremely versatile and highly nutritious culinary oil. Donegal Virgin Rapeseed Oil is packed with Omega 3, 6, and 9, all believed to have a profound positive effect on heart health, reduction of strokes, and rheumatoid arthritis. This oil also has a perfect balance of mono and polyunsaturated fats, which can reduce cholesterol levels. So do you need any more reason to use it? Oh yes we almost forgot… It’s tastes great too! Use it in cooking, for salad dressings, in breads and baking. The high burn point makes it good for frying as well. And its light subtle flavour never overpowers the rest of the ingredients you are using. Available in 500mls or 5ltr sizes for professional use. And if you don’t take our word for it ask some of the Good Food Ireland Food Hero’s as our Chefs love it too!
